The 27F Memorial Project is presented as a “renaissance park” generating a meeting space for the relatives of those who died in the earthquake, and the inhabitants who will use the park on a daily basis.

As a park, its design aims to be as far away as possible from the rigid walls full of names characteristic of many of these places and from any gloomy environment, since those who survive only want to fondly remember those who left and heal themselves. sharing their experiences with others who went through the same. It is also part of the idea to leave a symbol that always reminds us that we live in a country in which these earthquakes of great intensity occur cyclically, so that the next time there are fewer misfortunes to regret.

Unlike the hard spaces and mostly devoid of vegetation that surround the assigned place, this proposal is a park planted mainly with native trees that are perfectly adapted to that climate and soil, they are of great beauty, they allow to recover the native vegetation that someday It existed on that riverbank that was so much richer and more beautiful than the mono-specific plantations of pinus pine that characterize the area today. Furthermore, it is proposed to plant some native trees in the adjacent land with gradually lower density to incorporate into a whole in the different sectors.

As it is a very impermeable terrain in which a lagoon naturally forms during a good part of the year, it is proposed to accentuate the current unevenness by creating a central lagoon whose upper level will be given by a drainage towards the river. This will then be a partially floodable park. With the extracted material, a gentle hill will be built on the perimeter of the land, which will partially protect the park from the influence of the intense traffic of Costanera Avenue and give it some privacy, as befits a park of this nature. Eventually material will be received from excavations in other sectors of the city to complement the material from the same place for the construction of the indicated slopes. This will facilitate the growth of some species that will be planted on the hills. The park is crossed by four axes that link the city with the river and that materialize in footbridges that will be built raised on the ground allowing comfortable circulation even in the rainy season.
