Article: A garden in Patagonia after the “ash season”
The article is presented in the context of the eruption of the Puyehue Volcano that occurred in June 2011, where, unfortunately, volcanic ash covered large areas of the Villa La Angostura ski resort, located in Tucumen, Argentina.
One of the private gardens in the area, designed by Teresa Moller, was not exempt from the ravages of the ash, but thanks to the cleanup work carried out by the local government and residents, as well as the rainy season, the project recovered life quickly.
The project site used to be extensively planted with Oregon Pine (Pseudotsuga menziesii), this as a result of an ancient afforestation process in Argentine Patagonia, which prevented the growth of native vegetation and the adequate entry of natural light. Given that, these trees were removed and finished with native trees and wild plants, and the wood of the pines is used as raw material for the construction of rustic furniture in the place.
The wood used in the garden, both the furniture and the stairs and terraces present in the project, due to the ashes, changed from a green to a grayish color, giving the project a new and interesting aspect.
The article calls to incorporate or assimilate the image that remains after an event of these magnitudes, and to respect the cycles of nature.
